MK-7 vs MK-4 vs K1
What is the difference between K1 and K2? K1 (phylloquinone, from leafy greens) is preferentially used by the liver for clotting factors. K2 (menaquinones) circulates longer and reaches extrahepatic tissues — bone and vasculature — where it activates osteocalcin and matrix Gla protein.
Why MK-7 and not MK-4? Serum half-life. MK-7 remains in circulation for roughly three days; MK-4 for one to two hours. A single 100 µg MK-7 dose maintains stable levels; MK-4 requires repeated milligram-range dosing to achieve the same effect.
What is the all-trans / cis issue? Only the all-trans isomer of MK-7 is biologically active. Poorly controlled synthetic MK-7 can contain a substantial share of inactive cis isomer while still passing a basic potency assay. Sheni Labs specifies fermentation-derived all-trans MK-7 and tests the isomer ratio on every batch.
Usage
Recommended use? Adults: 1 drop daily, with a meal, unless otherwise advised by a healthcare professional.
Can I take it with Vitamin D3? Yes — the combination is the most-studied pairing for these two vitamins: D3 increases calcium absorption, K2-activated proteins help direct where calcium is deposited.
Who must NOT take K2 without medical advice? Anyone on vitamin K antagonist anticoagulants (warfarin and related medicines). Vitamin K directly interacts with how these drugs work — consult your doctor first.
